Follow-up visits usually last 30-60 minutes depending on the complexity and time needed to review lab work.

Fees/Insurance Coverage
Dr. Bina works as a functional medicine consultant in conjunction with your current health care team and is not considered a replacement for your primary care physician. She requires new patients to have a primary care physician to cover emergencies, routine care and screening.
Financial Policy
We do not bill insurance directly. While we fully understand the financial challenge this presents to some patients, we have chosen not to bill insurance directly for the following reasons:
When clinics bill insurance companies directly, the doctors are required to become participating providers. The doctors must sign a contract that allows the insurance company to determine which services they will and will not provide, and how much they can charge for those services. In general, insurance companies are not focused on any preventative or wellness services. They are heavily invested in the conventional model of health care that relies mostly on drugs and surgery. I am committed to the functional medicine model that addresses the underlying causes of your symptoms with specific nutritional and lifestyle recommendations.
A participating provider must agree to accept the fees the insurance company establishes, regardless of whether the fees are reasonable or applicable to that practice. Most doctors and clinics cope with the requirements of being participating providers by keeping their office visits very brief, so that they can see many patients within a given timeframe. When the clinic becomes unprofitable, it will need support from another institution. Most medical offices are not self-sustaining financially and have had to merge with hospitals whose expensive high-tech surgical and diagnostic procedures are priced to keep the clinics afloat.
Ironically, some patients complain about their extremely brief office visits in other medical practices, while at the same time expressing frustration that we do not accept insurance. Unfortunately, I have found that I cannot stay in the insurance networks and provide the time-intensive, well-researched, expert care that you need.
You can use an FSA or HSA for your visits. Your care may be covered by your commercial insurance as out-of-network medical care. We will provide you with a receipt for services, which you may submit to your insurance plan for reimbursement. We have opted-out of Medicare. This means your appointment cannot be submitted to Medicare for any coverage.
We may discuss a 3-month payment plan for patients in need.

FAQ
Will you be my primary care provider?
No. Dr. Bina will collaborate with your primary care provider as a consultant.
Do you accept insurance?
Your health and wellness are my first priority. The financial policy allows me to provide you with access to the best treatment available and does not limit your care to what is allowed or covered by your health insurance policy. Our office does not bill insurance, submit claims or call the insurance companies directly. Upon request, we can provide you with a copy of a detailed medical receipt including procedure and diagnosis codes and the fees charged, which can be submitted to your insurance company for possible reimbursement of out-of-network care.
Why should I do specialized testing?
This is a science-based practice. Labs and in some cases, imaging, are necessary in finding the root cause of your condition and will guide the right therapeutic plan for you. Specialized testing warns of potential problems and can help you make the diet and lifestyle changes necessary to enhance and extend your quality of life. Unfortunately, conventional medicine laboratory testing is limited and may miss the opportunity to prevent disease.
